Your Spring HVAC Maintenance Checklist

Your Spring HVAC Maintenance Checklist

Having your HVAC system inspected by a professional every year may not be in your budget. But neglecting your system entirely is a surefire way of finding yourself with massive repair or replacement bills down the line.

While we here at Comfort First make it easy and affordable for our clients throughout North Carolina to sign up for an annual maintenance plan, there are some things you can do at home to keep your system in the best possible shape.

This is particularly true in the spring, that in-between time of the year where we shed our winter layers and prepare for warmer months ahead. As North Carolina summer looms, spring is the perfect time to give your HVAC system a thorough once-over. That way you can head into any warm weather confident that you and your family will remain comfortably cool.

What Should You Have In Your North Carolina Spring HVAC Maintenance Checklist?

Check And Replace Your Filters

You should be doing this regularly, but make sure you check these filters even more frequently in the spring. Why? Because the summer air is filled with particles and allergens that find their way into your home, via your HVAC system. When you don’t clean your filters, not only are you breathing unclean air; but you’re also making your HVAC system work harder than it needs to.

That means higher energy bills, and shortening the lifespan of your HVAC system.

Clear Your Registers Of Obstruction

Just before summer hits (and you start using your AC on a near-daily basis) make sure to keep your registers and ducts clean of dust and debris. Think of it as ‘spring cleaning’ for your HVAC system.

Clear Your Outdoor System Of Any Debris

This change in Mother Nature also introduces a new challenge to your HVAC system: debris.

Leaves, dirt, and sticks have a way of landing on top of, and inside, your system. If you want to clean the inside of your HVAC system, we recommend calling a professional. But you certainly can use a rag, or gloves, to clear debris from the top and sides of your system. If necessary, use a hose.

This allows for maximum airflow to the fan and increases your unit’s efficiency and lifespan.

For the best possible performance (and to preserve the lifespan of your system) try to leave about two feet of space around your outdoor unit.

Know When To Call A Professional

The tips we outlined above are fairly easy DIY steps you can take to prolong the life of your system and to ensure your HVAC is ready for the upcoming summer.

But there’s only one way to guarantee that your system is in tip-top shape for many years to come: sign up for Comfort First’s annual maintenance checkup.

During our checkup, our field technicians go through every nook and cranny of your HVAC system. Our exclusive 21-point checklist covers all the bases needed to guarantee your system is ready for the summer.

Spring is a particularly busy time for our field techs. Schedule your spring checkup today to make sure you and your family head into the summer with guaranteed comfort as your peace of mind.

Had these folks install a couple of whole home dehumidifiers for me. They were prompt, courteous, professional, and efficient. During the installation, several deficiencies were identified from the previous installers of the existing HVAC equipment and rather than step back or charge extra, they rolled up their sleeves and took care of the problems (that they…

Absolutely AWESOME! These guys knew what they were doing, had a plan, and executed it. The customer’s satisfaction was always paramount to any issues that arose. It was evident that "Customer First" is an attitude that stretches from the great guys/gals on the install crews, to those in Admin, and those at the TOP. Absolutely would…
